The following is an overview of the images contained in the press set

For more than a century the public transport system of Australia’s largest capital city has remained incomplete, now construction work is underway to fill this gap. The $8.3billion North West Rail Link project is the longest transport tunnelling project in Australia’s history and is expected to be complete by 2019. The 15 km long twin tunnels are being constructed to connect Sydney’s northwest suburbs to the city for the very first time.

Timely supply of engineering, design, material, and supervision for the tunnelling formwork system ensured early completion of certain activities on the critical path.

PERI Australia successfully supplied formwork for the tunnel “nozzles” at Norwest, Showground, Castle Hill and Epping Stations. The key highlight however, was the self-travelling formwork supplied at Castle Hill station for the aptly named 160m long “Castle Hill Crossover Cavern”.

Designed and engineered by the in-house engineering team of PERI Australia, the tunnel formwork measures a staggering 20m in width with heights varying between 11m and 14m. Based on the VARIOKIT carriage, the massive 140 tonnes tunnel formwork system is designed to move by an electrically driven wheel system. Precision designed and customized hydraulic systems allow the tunnel formwork system to vary heights as required. The PERI UP Rosett Flex system was used to provide access to various areas of the formwork.
