UTS Central

Project data

Location: Sydney, Australia

  • A new University Building for the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
  • Size: Gross floor area of 47,000m²
  • 17 floors made up of two underground floors, a five-level podium and 10-level tower
  • Total construction budget: $368.6m

Requirements

  • Providing a safe edge protection system to form and construct the non-linear outer edges of the structure. This also allowed for changes in column positions and shrinking slab profiles.

Customer

Dalma Form Specialists Pty Limited

Benefit to customer

  • The use of Tables allowed a cost-effective acceleration of the program.
  • Tables incorporating edge protection permitted the client to open up areas of the structure to allow the other trades to begin their work sooner, particularly with the facade.
  • Maximo allowed the customer to achieve fast & safe assembly with the wall & column forms being able to be assembled to full height on the ground and then crane lifted into position. Rebates and angles were built directly onto the Maximo form face and were able to be reused throughout the project, saving time and money.

Rosett allowed for safe access around the formwork, within the stair cores and for steelfixing.

Concrete finish was also of importance on this project and the maximo helped achieve this with the uniform tie locations.

Project Manager

This was the most challenging project our company had ever undertaken. The team at PERI gave us great support through the design phase including full-size trials.

The table swivel head and Special C-Hook made the task of recycling tables easy. We were able to meet our cycle times with thorough planning. The solution PERI presented not only worked well, it also addressed all of the required safety standards requested.

PERI solution

  • The solution required two floors of tables with screen protection attached.
  • Approximately 120 tables were made and used throughout the job.
  • A C-Hook was specially designed and fabricated to allow moving of the tables to every second floor, hit and miss.
  •  In other areas of the project, Multiprops and VARIOKIT struts were used to back prop around large voids located in the lower levels of the building.
